“On the question of comfort women, when my thought goes to these people, who have been victimized by human trafficking and gone through immeasurable pain and suffering beyond description, my heart aches.” This was carefully spoken by the prime minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe during an exclusive interview with the Washington Post. For centuries, the world has battled against the trafficking of children and young women.According to an estimate that was made by the International Labor Organization, about 1.2 million children are subjected to child trafficking each year worldwide. That’s 1.2 million children that are taken from their homes, from their parents, and from their lives every year.  One of the reasons children are trafficked is the obvious economic gain for the traffickers.  Children are also often trafficked for cheap labor and are forced to work in farms, mines, and factories. Traffickers sometimes tempt children with promises of work.  The main reason why children are trafficked, and probably the most atrocious, is the trafficking of children for international sex trade. Although the thought is terrifying, the parents of these poor children often have “deals” with the traffickers, who promise that they will take the burden of the child off of their hands. Many children who have been trafficked have shared their stories. In 1993, a man named Ishmael Beah was 12 years old.  The government dragged him out of his peaceful life and into the Sierra Leone dispute. For 3 years of his life, he lived in utter fear and took part in the horrors of the Civil War. He was forced to take part in the war  and said that anyone who tried to leave was shot. He is just one of the many children who have been kidnapped and forced into labor.According to a survey of about 20 middle school students, 100% of them thought that child trafficking was wrong and unfair to the children. They all thought that it deeply affects the victims and that the children may suffer from depression, PTSD, anxiety, and deep mental trauma. All of them said that if they could do something to help the children who are being trafficked, they would. You can make an educated estimation of how many children are trafficked each year.  The truth is, though, nobody really knows how many children fall victim to the obscenities of child trafficking.  Child trafficking is a hidden crime. The sufferers of trafficking struggle with the burden of their past, and experience.  According to research done by Ark of Hope For Children, Kids who have suffered child trafficking face significant problems. They are often physically abused, they have distinctive medical and psychological needs that must be addressed before advancing in the formative years of adulthood. All throughout history, people have fought hard against human trafficking, but not much progress has been made. To help save the thousands of children who are victims of child trafficking worldwide, you can raise awareness about child trafficking, donate money to an organization that helps the children or even start a club or community group. By doing this, you can help save the estimated 1.2 million children that are stolen from their lives each year around the world.  Do you want to help the children in need?
