Nature nurture. Nurture is our environment, surroundings

Nature versus Nurture in Intelligence Development How do we become the people we are today? What factors help shape us?  The development and growth of individuals has become a topic of debate. Psychologists have argued about which factors contribute towards our intelligence.  Biological and environmental factors such as Nature and Nurture both influence development. While many within society believe that a person’s behavior, actions and intelligence are formed through a mixture of both nature and nurture, some lean more towards the”Nature” side, while others lean towards “Nurture”. Those who side with nature reckon that DNA determines personality and traits. Unlike those who side with nature, those who side with nurture believe that everyone is born with a blank slate and that love and experiences shape a person as well as  their understanding of life. Nature is the belief that hereditary or inherited traits found in our genes play a role in making us who we are. Nature determines characteristics like sex, hair color, eye color, skin color, and to some extent, personality. Nurture, on the other hand, is the theory that the environment influences personality traits. The theory of nurture contends that people are taught skills and raised        become certain ways (Cherry). The debate between psychologists and behavioral theorists questions to what extent nature or nurture influence a person’s development. Intelligence is defined as  “the ability to acquire and apply knowledge and skills.”  Research suggests that nurture is ultimately more powerful in determining intelligence than nature. As humans, our intelligence is developed through nurture. Nurture is our environment, surroundings and our experiences. Our intelligence begins to  develop with assistance from our families and early education ( ). All around the world, children are born into different types of families, therefore no two lives are the same.  Some children are born into luxury while others are born into poverty. With such a wide diversity of people, some live in places where they cannot develop certain skills. For a example children who live closer to a body of water will obtain the skill to swim better and quicker compared to those who live in areas with limited water sources. However through nurture, children can become intelligent and adapt to their surroundings. Through nurture children will  be more prepared for success in their future regardless of their genes. Believe it or not interactive items at a young age play a factor into developing our intelligence. Children who are engaged with interactive items that have colors, textures and sounds are more likely to develop learning skills and increase their intelligence. These interactive items develop our intelligence without us even realizing. Child who play with toys are more likely to increase their creativity and exploration. Children who play with paint sets, play dough and coloring books compared to those who play video games and watch tv  are more likely to be creative and think outside the “box”.  Not only do toys develop creativity but they also can teach life skills.  When a child plays with a doll, the engagement can help children learn how to care for others. Caring for others is an essential skills in which a child that will require in their lives, and help to prepare them to use such skills later in life.  Once we enter the world, our early childhood development  influences and strengthens our learning and intelligence ( ) Interactive items aren’t the only the only factor that influence intelligence. Families and home environments also impact human intelligence. A Parent’s presence will greatly influence their children’s intelligence.  Those whose parents  are well educated and successful in the workforce, tend to raise their children to be the same way. A child’s parents are the ones who will be there for them during their  most of their lifetime. Parent’s are the ones who will  influence and teach their child the most. The way that parents treat and talk to those around them and their children can affect their child’s intelligence level. Not all parents are successful. Some parents have low-income jobs with long hours. These parents are constantly tired and overwhelmed by bills and other expenses. Their attempts to provide basic needs for their children become stressful. (  )However many argue that nature is the main factor that contributes towards developing in intelligence.
