Benjamin Franklin Benjamin Franklin is most famous for being a political leader! Benjamin Franklin lead the american colonies and early america. He got the french to help fight against the british, which saved america! He is also famous for being a great scientist and inventor as well as a writer and publisher. Benjamin Franklin invented many inventions such as the lightning rod and bifocal glasses. He wrote poor richard’s almanac. Young lifeBenjamin Franklin had seventeen brothers and sisters in all. He was the tenth child! Benjamin’s family were soap and candle producers, one of the lowliest of the artisan crafts. He worked in grammar school for one year and under a private teacher another. Annoyingly, he stopped going to school at the age of ten. When he was twelve his brother James apprenticed him to print. Benjamin Franklin eventually got tired and annoyed by his brother james and so he found a solution to break his apprentice contract! When his brother james printed the New England courant he added some humorous letters, in the paper, about harvard boys, silly girls, and bad poets! Everyone wondered who the clever author was. At the same time, James angered the magistrates which they disapproved of the New England Courant’s funny letters and so he printed ,a new paper called,the courant in Benjamin Franklin’s name! For this to happen, he needed to make sure that the officials didn’t know that he was writing a paper by an apprentice so they secretly signed a contract, so Benjamin franklin wasn’t his apprentice anymore. James did find out about the letter in his old paper which made James extremely mad but being a free man now Benjamin slipped away from James’s wrath! A printer After, Benjamin left his older brother ,James, he went to New York City in search of work. Sadly, he found no work! After that, he went to boston ,a town which he would become famous in. After a while in boston he found work at in the print shop of Samuel Keimer. Sense he was so skilled at typing from his apprenticeship, Keimer paid him well! The Governor advised Benjamin to open his open his own shop. He promised to pay all expenses and the voyage to England to get a type writer of his own. The Governor did not keep his promise leaving Benjamin stranded in England. Eventually, Benjamin Franklin found work as a typewriter and returned to Philadelphia in 1726. He worked as a sales clerk for some time, but he, eventually, returned to Keimer! In 1728 Benjamin started his own printing shop with his partner. They worked together and made the Pennsylvania Gazette. In 1730 Franklin took his partner’s share of the business! From 1730 to 1748 Franklin was very successful! He was made official printer for maryland and public printer for Delaware and New Jersey. After a while he became Maryland’s official printer! Inventing more and more You’ve probably heard of Benjamin Franklin because of his great inventions. Benjamin Franklin did invent many useful items we use today! Such as the lightning rod or the Franklin stove (it was more popular in the 1980s) as well as bifocal glasses. He even invented things when he was young! A example would be fins and paddles! Benjamin Franklin was a wonderful swimmer. One day, he had an idea. He would make the area of his hand wider and longer in length to push more water resulting in a forward motion. His genius saved houses from lightning using lightning rods. A wire would simply take the electrical discharge and puts it safely into the ground where it can do no harm! The Franklin stove would spread heat through out the house but would not burn the person that would use it. You see when the person put the coal or wood in the stove the part they touched would not touch them but still get the fuel to the burner. Then the heat would be channeled through pipes and heat all the rooms in the house! Benjamin Franklin invented many more inventions that help the world every day! He helped society a lot more than you think! We’ll start with the little things first. The new messenger system. Letters oftenly got mixed up in the mail! So he made people write their names on the letter’s to keep track on who and where it came from and where it was going to. The letters were measured by weight and the distance to so they knew how much money they were to receive. People would argue about how far the letter or package would go so Benjamin Franklin made a machine that measured distance. Then he would take stones and measure every mile on the main roads. He became postmaster. Then there was the French he recruited for the revolutionary war. He simply went to France and made some negotiations and recruited them.
