A smugglers. He insisted that they had

A Star TwinkledYesterday marked one of my best friend’s birthday. Some of my friends and I decided to go to a park and plan a surprise birthday party for him. When we strolled on the park we were all laughing and started curving our names on the trees as we talked about our friend, the birthday boy. The park was filled with yellow, red and orange leaves. The trees facing the sky, upset, bare and leafless.  The branches dry and plain, they seemed strange to me, as if they were begging the sky to give them back their leaves or maybe they were complaining to God about the earth stealing their leaves. All my friends were there except Ahmad, I had not seen Ahmad for a week now, with a blank look on my face, I asked others if he was fine. I reached my pocket pulled out my cell phone, as I wanted to call him, Sifatullah looked up with a pain in his face and spit the words out with a sorrow in his throat “Ahmad in no more”. Sifatullah was the Ahmad’s cousin. We were all shocked and nobody dared to ask another question. Sifatullah continued” last week this time his family was getting ready to send him off  to Europe illegally, so they sold their house to give money to smugglers. He insisted that they had to leave their homeland to seek shelter in a safe country. But they weren’t so lucky because their ship submerged. And still no one could find their soulless bodies. As we heard the story the joy of our friend’s birthday vanished from our faces and the drops of tears rolled down Sifatullah eyes.”On that time everything became dark for me. I cursed the furious waves of the sea and the winds which caused those waves. Ahmad did not deserve to die by drinking the salty water of the sea. He should have survived and thrived his nation and developed his country. And what causes more pain is that It is not only Ahmad; there are many other innocent lives from Afghanistan, Syria and Iraq that goes in vane in the struggle of escaping from war. I was dreaming about a world with persistent peace and suddenly a star twinkled.Hezbullah Shafaq 31/Jan/2016 Kabul, Afghanistan
