INTRODUCTION

The aim of this report is to investigate
strategies on how WestSide College could reduce the carbon footprint the staff,
adopting a sustainable business travel approach.

The expected result is a low carbon emission
policy adopted to everybody regards of commuting to college.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT

Promoted by the local authority to reduce
congestion of traffic, it has the highest fuel efficiency per rider, comparing
to others forms of commuting. According to some studies, taking bus or train
instead of cars can reduce the number of accidents, by reducing the numbers of
cars in the roads.

In addition, using public transport is a good way
of increase the overall health; by walking to and from public transport it will
include some extra physical activity in the regular lives of commuters.

In spite of great number of benefits, public transport
suffers from delays, long stops through the way and overcrowded compartments.

CARPOOLING

Using one car to
transport five people to go to the same destination instead of just one person,
have positive impact on personal finance, as a result of sharing the cost of
running the vehicle expensive during the calendar month. In addition, it will
reduce the number of cars in the roads, meaning reduction of co2 emission of by
the cars into the atmosphere.

Yet, it can be a bit
complicate to organize the schedule timetable between the car sharers. Also,
the loss of privacy is an issue that have to be in accounting when sharing a
car with another person.

TELECOMMUTING

This option gives the employees
good balance between personal and work obligation, reducing cost on transport
to the workplace and reducing the pollution to the environment.

Some specified areas in
technology (including computer and software programming) can be completed through
telecommuting.

In addition, the person
who works from home, tend to use fewer office equipment and supplies, resulting
in less using of electricity if compared to work in the college premises.

Nevertheless, it is not
fit to majority of workers who’s should be self-motivated to meet targets and not
get easily distracted.

RECOMMENDATIONS

To conclude, changes in the way staff and students
commute should be incentivised by the board of the college.

 It is
important the public’s eyes that organization such as this college is more pro
eco-friendly in the 21st century.
